Dark bown-body earthenware, glazed with light yellow and a thick layer of matte olive-green glaze, matte glaze. Hemispherical body with leaves in relief, tall concave neck decorated with full-height buds.

Markings: Circular sticker GRUEBY POTTERY BOSTON USA  REGISTERED TRADE MARK with stylised flower logo on bottom.

From a pair of vases purchased at the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris. Vases decorated with the special green glaze (“Grés”) developed by company founder William H. Grueby were characteristic for the company’s product range in around 1900. A large collection of vases of this type were exhibited at the Paris World’s Fair in 1900.
